Question: Why is there such a demand for after-school mathematics enrichment programs? Why aren't the top public school systems succeeding in mathematics? How can that be fixed? What is the problem with mathematics education in America?
Thesis: Answers why the focus in the classroom needs to directly change from "Is this on the test?" to "How does this entire theory/concept work so I can apply it to any type of problem, possibly even outside my topic (aka connecting math and science or math and history, etc) and also looking at the greater issues regarding the structure of public schools. Also, researching deeply into why families are turning to private schools, charter schools and additional after-school programs or tutoring.
